Encounter with Jesus
A missionary with the Obra de Maria Community since 2007, Fernanda says she chose to be a missionary after having a personal encounter with Jesus. “I felt His love strongly and my desire was for others to discover and feel this love. That’s how my desire for the mission of making Him known began,” she said.
She says that the prayer group and the service within her parish were not enough compared to her desire to evangelize. So she decided to leave her parents' house, her job and her plans to live the charism of the Community Work of Mary.
Proclaiming the Good News of Jesus in such a demanding reality is not easy, the missionary reveals. “I often took good care of myself and treated myself with love when I found myself without the materials and medicines necessary for various cases. (…) Mozambique was the most challenging and remarkable reality to date in bringing Jesus, which strengthens me today in the mission I am on.”

Call of God
Like Fernanda, Father Clayton is also a missionary. The priest is a member of the Canção Nova Community and reveals that his choice for the mission was a calling from God.
“It all started when I was holding vocational meetings in my diocese of São José dos Campos (SP),” he recalls. The priest emphasizes that he wanted to be a charismatic priest in his diocese. “God changed my will (…). He wanted me to be a priest not only in one diocese, but wherever he wanted to send me.”
In 2005, Father Clayton met the vocational team for the Canção Nova seminary. From then on, he began to hold meetings. “By the third meeting, my heart was already burning with the desire to be a missionary priest at Canção Nova,” he says.
Sister Sorella of the Blessed Sacrament and Sister Eulália of Our Lady Servant belong to the Congregation of the Fraternity of the Poor of Jesus Christ (Missionary Fraternity The Way) and also claim that they are missionaries based on a calling from God.
Father Clayton is on a mission at the Immaculate Conception Parish in the city of Zobue, Mozambique. The priest is the parish vicar and also responsible for the Immaculate Conception Shrine in Zoubue.
“My mission is to lead people to a personal encounter with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. By enabling people, through the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, to be nourished at the table of the Word and the Eucharist.” The priest says that he also carries out activities in rural areas, presides over Mass and administers the other sacraments.
